Hot Mama Protein Shake

By |

Protein shakes are a great addition to mom’s diets. This is a meal in a glass that packs a serious punch. If you can slam some protein early in the day, you will keep your appetite and sugar cravings at bay all day. Protein sticks with you and burns slowly, the opposite of carbs. Your body burns up carbs really fast. So if you can get some protein down first thing, you’re going to keep your blood sugar more even keeled all day. This will help you say no to cookies and junk in the face of toddler melt downs! Read more »

If you pack your diet with these kinds of foods you will be far less likely to “accidentally” fall into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s.

Additionally, these foods are powerful for postpartum weight loss and losing your baby belly. When trying to meet your mommy weight loss goals it is imperative to have foods high in protein, fiber, healthy fats and vitamins/minerals. Power foods like this will curb your sweet tooth, fuel your workouts and keep your blood sugar even keeled as you charge through your day. So go add these badboys to your grocery list and STOCK UP! Snow Day Workout

By |

Did you know it snowed in 49 states yesterday?! How crazy is that? Here in Seattle we had about three inches overnight. I was up pretty much every hour trying to decide if I was going to cancel my 6am Boot Camp. At about 4:30 the snow turned to rain and I knew Boot Camp was on! Woohoo!

As excited as I was to get up and kick some Boot Camp booty, only about 1/3 of my class showed up. So, I had to give everyone else homework. I know, I’m so mean.

You’ll see the workout I sent them in the video above. I actually sent them this workout earlier this year, right before Thanksgiving, as well. You’ll see a bunch of times posted in the comments. This is a great workout for YOU! Why? You can do it at home. You don’t need any equipment. You can do it in under 20 minutes. NO EXCUSES!

Does counting calories matter?

Are you a calorie counter? Probably not. I know, it’s a total pain. What if I told you that research shows that people who count calories weigh less? What if I told you that people who track calories from day to day weigh less? What if I told you that people who write down their daily caloric intake weigh less? Would that make it worth it to you? It’s worth giving it some thought and consideration, right?

It’s interesting to note that MANY (if not most) women weigh themselves everyday. Most women know exactly how much they weigh, right? Even if you don’t like that little number on the scale, you know what it is. But do you know how many calories you’re taking in each day that are directly contributing to that number on the scale (for better or worse!!) If the number of calories you consume everyday has the most significant impact on that dang number on the scale, don’t you want to know how many calories you’re consuming? Read more »

The Super Scary Meat and Dairy Industry

By |

In my last email we talked about organic produce. Now I want to tell you a little about the importance of organic meat and dairy. Like I mentioned in the last email, the government regulation of our food supply is horrendous. You would not believe what is allowed to taint our milk and dairy. Similarly, you would not believe the impact all this has on our environment and health. Being from Seattle, I’m surrounded by “green”, “sustainable” EVERYTHING. It is a lot to learn where/when/why you should spend extra money on “green” items and organic foods. I mean, does *everyone* have to drive a Prius?? (If you’ve never been to Seattle, let me tell you that every other car on the freeway is a Prius. I think the Prius is our new state flower or something, haha!) The Prius is a great car, I mean no disrespect. My point is that I’m inundated with environmental concerns here in Seattle. This is a good thing. Lots of opportunity for education, growth and improvement! I’m happy to pass some of what I’ve learned on to my Fit Healthy Mom friends. Read more »

If you’re like me and you try to buy organic produce whenever possible, you may feel a little frustrated by the extra cost involved in making such an effort to be a healthier, more conscientious consumer. Hello, should one really have to work overtime to afford good produce? So here’s the nitty gritty on organic produce: some of it is WELL worth the extra cost. BUT, some produce carries such a low pesticide risk it is really not necessary to buy organic (although PCC and Whole Paycheck, I mean, Whole Foods, may try to convince you otherwise with their beautiful produce displays.) Also, remember, especially at this time of year – it’s always better to BUY LOCAL! Here in Seattle, we are super lucky to have so many local farmer’s markets to choose from. Take full advantage of them! Find out when and where your local farmers markets are so you can get the best deals on fresh, local, organic produce.

Why should you spend the extra money on organics produce? A few reasons. . . . Read more »
