5 reasons for a sexy back

By |

Back exercises are important for moms for a number of reasons. Here’s the skinny on why you should work your sexy back:

1. Look taller and leaner: If you could immediately look an inch or two taller with a waist an inch or two smaller, wouldn’t you want to?? Having a strong back will allow you to stand taller with your shoulders pulled back and you core engaged. This will give you height and take inches off your waist. Notice next time you’re in public how hunched over people look heavier. With their shoulders rounded forward they look shorter and thicker. Not the look you’re going for, right?!

2. Moms, especially moms of young ones, tend to be very rounded through the upper back. Think about it, you’re nursing, cuddling and carrying a little person around for the better part of a few years. So, it’s easy for your upper back and shoulders to round forward, your chest to tighten up and your belly to pooch out. Not your best look!

3. Having a strong back will minimize your risk of injury for everything related to shoulder injuries to low back strain. Back and shoulder injuries are a nightmare, especially if you have little ones to tend to. No one can afford these hassles, especially moms.

4. Everything we do in Western culture encourages us to reach forward, lean forward, hover over something in front of us (our kids, our computers, our kitchen sink….) There is no escaping this. So you ALL have tight chests and weak backs unless you’re actively strengthening your back.

5. Backs are HOT! Do you check out other ladies muscles? I’ll admit it – I totally do! I always notice if I see a woman with good back muscles. Back and shoulder muscles look lean and sexy. They are a sign of strength and pride in one’s body. You deserve to have those hot little lines in your back and arms!

For these reasons back exercises are ESSENTIAL, among the most important exercises you do! So be sure to watch the video above for my favorite dumbbell back exercises. These exercises along with pull ups and lat pull downs are the perfect foundation for building back strength and sexy back muscles.
